Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree from the department of English literature. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). The following year, she was a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. In 1981 began working for the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was named as the head White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell participated on the TV show Meet the Press and also hosted the program. Mitchell participated on a panel during the 1988 debates between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell was married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure as president between 1981 and 1988. Mitchell reported on a variety of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-Contra scandal, fiscal tax reforms, and the arms control. Mitchell traveled with President Ronald Reagan many times to attend summits and discuss issues like the Iran Contra scandal.
